Question
My Citibank Aadvantage MasterCard is due for renewal. Has anyone been successful in obtaining a renewal incentive (i.e. mileage bonus)? If so, who do I contact?
Answer
Bumping this..
I, too, am looking for an incentive to keep Citibank AA Mastercard. Or, failing that, I would take suggestions for a good replacement. I could use miles on Southwest, Hilton, and to a lesser extent, DL and CO. No United or Starwood. Any suggestions, as well as which ones to avoid, would be appreciated.
Answer
My AA MA is up for renewl as well....unfortunately i don't think Citi's MA has a retention bonus. I am thinking to cancel it and use Hilton's Visa for backup, since I have a Starwood card that will eventually earn more miles.
From the FTs here Starwood AMEX is voted the best card for earning miles. You get 20,000pts=25,000miles conversion.

Answer
My friend works for Citibank and said there are several retention offers, ranging from a lower APR to bonus miles. It strictly depends on your card usage and credit history. There is some "formula" in the computer that tells them what to offer.
He did stress one thing, and that is NO ONE gets their annual fee waived on the credit card. To do this you MUST have a quarter of a million dollars in assets, and know a branch manager who will expense it out of their account.
Im sure there is at least one person who has found an exception to one of the rules, but these are the "said" guidlines.

All CitiGold clients get the annual fee for Citibank credit card of their choice waived each year. You don't have to negotiate this benefit each year... it's automatic.
Answer
I take it (since I've never heard of it) that Citigold is not available in the US.
Answer
Whoops. Found it in the US. Unless I like the other features, I probably would not be willing to pay $125/yr to get rid of my annual fee on a credit card.
Answer
Chix, you are right, I spoke to my friend and he said those people with $250,000 in asstes are called Citigold Customers. I asked if it was a benefit and he said that he thinks so because many use it as a selling point.
Are you a Citigold Customer and if so what is the minimum balance?
Answer
CitiGold is not really worth bothering if you just want the annual fee to get waived off.

Answer
"Citigold" is a type of private account relationship with with Citibank, the bank. We're talking about the retail bank with branch offices.
Citigold carries an annual fee, and you must have ~$250M in assets on deposit. However, there are several benefits that are useful to someone who has $250M in equities & cash to deposit. One of them is annual fee reimbursement on any of Citibank's credit cards.
If you have a Citigold relationship, your annual fee is not waived per se -- it is reimbursed by your personal Citigold bank representative.
So, it appears that the annual fee is *not* wavied for the Citibank AAdvantage card for anyone.

You are right with regards to the private relationship, but incorrect on the other statements.
The Citibank credit card of your choice annual fee is waived entirely, not reimbursed - you do not see any annual fee for a Citibank card if Citigold.
Also, Citigold does not charge a yearly account maintenance fee IF you are a good customer.

What's the definition of "good"? (I understand that it will be vague.)

Citigold is available in the US to any customer with a $250k relationship. That includes deposits as well as mortgage balances.

Just a thought...how many of you are cancelling your AAdvantage Mastercard when the year is up?

Answer
Just got my spending limit bumped to $40K on the Citibank Aadvantage. If I can knock out the gold challenge, then I should be able to get 400K+ miles/yr.
I thought this was a pretty good deal. Is there a better card for this level of activity?
Answer
Unless you get the Gold challenge, the best you can do is get the Platinum World Card; $85 annual fee, 100,000 mile annual cap.
If you get the Gold challenge (or achieve Elite status), then your mile cap is unlimited with either the Gold World Card or Plat World Card.

Why would you do this? If AA is your primary carrier, where else are you going to get AA miles?
Answer
Family Flyer, I use Starwood AMEX...and Starpoints can be transfered to AA miles. with a great ratio of 20k=25k.

I am thinking of not renewing because I already have 120,000 AA miles with little prospect of using them in the next few years. AA (TWA) and Southwest are my primary carriers. All of my air travel is paid with Amex. Visa/MC is just for groceries.
I hate to pay the $50 annual fee for grocery shopping miles, when I can get some sign-up bonus miles with a different carrier or hotel plan.

I should have been more specific. I, too, use Starwood Amex, but since all merchants don't accept Amex I assume you also use a Visa/MC.
Since you need a Visa/MC, why would you cancel an AA affinity card if AA was your primary carrier?
Answer
Family Flyer,
I am still thinking of cancelling it. Because
1) AA is no longer my primary carrier (company chooses over me http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif )
2) HHonor card is free
3) AMEX is accepted in alot of places then we can imagine, so using a Master/Visa card to get just Hilton points might be okay.
Again, i haven't made my decision yet, i have about 10 days to do so http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Answer
I missed the October 15 deadline to apply for a card and get 8000 AA bonus miles. Has this offer been extended or can I phone somebody and ask for an extension?
Answer
I canceled my no-fee trial american airlines citibank mastercard because I did not want to pay the annual fee to renew and had already charged charged enough to get the maximum annual allowance of American miles. They spent 5 minutes trying to talk me out of it. I was offered a free AA companion ticket and conversion to other citibank cards without a fee. They did not offer waiving the fee for the next year or increasing the annual limit on miles accumulation, but they really tried to talk me out of it.
Answer
There is no cap on mileage with the Gold Visa or Platnium MasterCard
Answer
Welcome to FT, Biffy!
Unless you have Elite status with AA, there are indeed caps on the Citibank AAdvantage cards offered today:
Gold MasterCard World / Visa Signature: 60,000 per year. $50 annual fee.
Platinum MasterCard World / Visa Signature: 100,000 per year. $85 annual fee.
If you have Elite status, then Citibank waives the milecap.
Answer
This is a stupid question but when does Citi charge the Annual fee? ? On my card it says 12/31/02 expired...do they charge the the fee on 12/01/01 or 12/31/01.

I believe the annual fee for the next year will appear on the last statement of the current year.
Answer
My understanding is that the annual fee is charged on the statement date just before the anniversary. So if your anniversary is 12/15/01 and your statement cuts on first of the month, the annual fee is charged on 12/1/01.
Usually, but not always, the card expiration date is the month before your anniversary.
Answer
I got the Platinium World Card with a fee of $50,thats what I paid last year when I got the bonus miles for getting it (10,000). But I doubt Ill renew even at $50,using the Starwoods instead and will be getting the Citi Hilton Visa for $0 fee,and 10,000 pts.Besides got a couple of other Visas that give some sort of rebate anyway.
Answer
Ok. kept the card and will see what happens next year. Although I didn't bother to call Citi for and retention bonus.
Answer
There is a AA Platinum Mastercard (not World) that is not advertised that has NO mileage cap regardless of elite status.
I can't recall the annual fee - I traded in for the Amex-like World card...
Answer
I also have the World Mastercard, when I called to have the $50 fee waived or I would cancel, they said they never waive the fee, but offered me 5000 miles to stay. At .01 cent a mile, I took the offer.
