NEA Redemption rules??

Question
Just want to find out if anyone had this experience before with NEA rewards redemption.
I have about 10K points in the NEA program and trying to redeem them for a few hotel nights. NEA tells me that they will book the room and send the money directly to the hotel. They also tell me that the once the reward is issued it cannot be changed (dates etc.) Basically, use it or loose it.
What happens if I need to change my plans. Is there any way around it??
I see another problem with their approach. The hotel probably will get their money before I have stayed there and I dont think they will be too inclined to serve me as good as otherwise.
Any thoughts???

Answer
It is just a prepaid stay - same thing as Priceline, Hotwire, most vacation packages, and reward stays.

Answer
I've used it many times for motel stays. Why would the hotel treat you badly since they are getting regular rack rate from NEA. If your plans change you could change the dates of your stay if you call the hotel

Answer
Thanks for the info regarding date change..
