NEA Platinum Plus wih Travel Rewards

Question
I have earned the maximum 70,000 points you can earn per year so I called and asked if I could get another card in my name with a different account number, line of credit, and the ability to earn 70,000 more points. The person I talked to said sure, and because I already had one card the chances of getting approved for another account were at least 99%.
I then said that I want to be sure he understands what I'm asking for, not just another card under the account I already have, but a totally new account, in addition to the one I had already had, with the additional line, account number, and being able to earn 70,000 more points. He said he understood and that it would be no problem.
This sounds too easy, has anyone else done this?
Thanks for the help.

Answer
Yes, I have 2 cards, one a Visa and the other a Master Card. Both MBNA NEA flight reward cards.

Answer
Thanks Wonderer, this really is a fantastic card.

Answer
I started out with the beginning lower line of credit on the second card, but they let me switch lines of credit back and forth between cards. I agree, they are great!

Answer
I was wondering about what kind of credit line I would get on the second card. Thanks for the advise.

Answer
I was wondering, I applied for a separate account for my wife also, do you think they will let me switch some of the credit line to her also if they start her out too low?

Answer
In the rules for this card, it states that you have to be an NEA member to receive the travel benefits. I know everyone on this board has said they never ask and have never bonged your rewards because of this.
My question is: has anyone ever brought this up with an MBNA rep? Has anyone ever said - before they got the card - something like "Hey, I'm *not* an NEA member, but I really support what they do, so I want this card" and gotten approved anyway?
Or is everyone just hoping that MBNA won't catch on in the future... I'd love to get this card, but I don't want the risk of losing my points down the road.

Answer
Frankly, I don't think MBNA really would care. The more card holders they have, the more charges they process, the more money they make.

Answer
Even though I have already applied for the NEA card and I am not an NEA member either, but just out of curiosity, how much does it cost to become member, if we need to?? Any ideas??

Answer
scrog, you might ask in advance if you will be able to switch lines of credit if it were her card. Good Luck.

rmccamy, As for not being a NEA member, MBNA sent out an invitation awhile back for relatives, (your mother, father, or adult sons or daughters) to apply for the card also. "Now, your spouse, domestic partner, children and parents are automatically eligible to apply for a card with all the privileges you enjoy. Give your family an opportunity to get something your're sure they'll value. Pass along this information to a family member today. Have them call 1-888-758-7946, code HW70." I got this about 2 years ago.
Interesting, in the last NEA magazine saw and ad for the MBNA NEA card without the mention of "fight rewards". I hope they don't have plans to phase it out.
Deliad, I don't know if a non-education person could "join" the NEA. You sign up at work through your "local" with lots of record keeping. When I retired, it cost between $400-$500 a year in dues.
My sister who is a counselor at a private school and not an NEA member told them when she applied over the phone that she did not belong to the NEA and MBNA said that as long as she belong to a "national professional counceling organization" that she could apply.

Answer
I think you could always sign up for an NEA card without the Membership Rewards. The card is free then.
