Question
The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Visa will start charging a 3% surcharge on transactions made in a foreign currency. In the terms, which go into effect on the first day of the billing cycle that ends in April, 2000, the change reads "If you make a transaction in a foreign currency, the currency will be converted to US Dollars using a wholesale or government mandated rate, plus an adjustment factor, currently 3%."
Answer
I will cancel mine and demand a pro-rated refund of the membership fee as soon as I get the notice.
Answer
I'm tempted to. There is no excuse to charge me extra just because I am making a purchase. At the very least, I am definitely going to send a letter to Bank of America AND AS(it's their name on the card)
If I have the wrong address, please let me know, but I have:
Bank of America
P.O. Box 53137
Phoenix, AZ 85072-7302
Answer
Randy talked about this a little while ago, he sent a letter to First USA and they repealed it. Perhaps you may wan't to forward a copy to Randy.

I am not surprised. Seafirst Bank was really good. Then BofA bought em, and since the takeover of BofA by Nationsbank, that bank has been, well, if I say it, there will be a lot of ********s appearing in this message. Even before this, I was tempted to cut my card, but this makes it even more tempting. I do not know what kind of contract AS has with BofA, but I would hope they tell that bank where to go. A 3% charge is ludicrous. As a lot of AS flyers go to both Mexico and Canada, this would seem to impact the cardholders a lot.
Answer
Eastbay1K you are not the only one to have noticed the difference between Seafirst and BofA.
I didn't care for being told my Seafirst Mastercard which I had had for 10 years was being changed to a Visa card. Then after I had opted for and received the Platinum card they offered, I received a new Mastercard. When I called I was told it was a "computer error" of course.
The 3% surcharge is another sign of the deterioration. With the protests the banks are getting about the ATM charges I guess they are looking for new frontiers of customer gouging.
