Question
i am a truckdriver with 20 yrs exp. i received a dwi in dec. of 1999. i have been trying to get back into driving these last 2 months, and have found out that, even though i received the dwi in a pov.i am still being punished profesionally. i am not a drinker by nature, but i happen to see a good friend of mine so we had 3 beers , trouble was they were all with in 1 and 1/2 hrs. the cop that stopped me did not like me due to factors from days gone by.he had seen me go in so he waited for me to come out. when i did he said i was weaving and gave me a breatholizer test, and wrote me the dwi.now the insurance companies are still punishing me for a mistake 3 yrs. ago. a felon can come out of prison after 18 mo. and go right to work what is wrong with this picture? i love driving a truck and i am ban from the one job i was born to do. i know you can offer no help but thank you for this opp. to say what i feel.
Answer
Most insurance companies look at the past 36 months for violations. However, some will go back further in looking at DWI and others will not consider a driver if there "ever" was a DWI that appears regardless of date.
Get a current copy of your MVR and When asked about accidents and violations in the past 3 years, provide them with exactly is on the MVR.
