Question
We've received a number of requests by shippers to provide proof of General Liability on our motor carrier clients.
General Liability would provide a number of coverages excluded by the Truckers Liability.
Are small motor carriers having to do more loading and unloading, or what?
Has anyone encountered this and have you been given a reason?
I'm curious to know the reason for this new surge.

Are small motor carriers having to do more loading and unloading, or what? Yes, they are. From what we have seen the larger motor carriers get larger through acquisition and the smaller motor carriers must offer more service to maintain their accounts.
Has anyone encountered this and have you been given a reason? Connie, we are seeing alot of requests for general liability and additional insured language from property freight brokers. We are also seeing requests for AI for the auto liability insurance as well. ISO has even come up with an additional insured endorsement for vicarious situtations like this. The endorsement for the auto came out in 2/99 but I don't recall the number as yet. Look in an IRMI manual for the exact language.
