Passssst experience co. driver........ O/O wannabe

Question
I have about 3 years (1983-1985) OTR exp. driving co. trucks, am currently employed by airline. I am considering getting back into trucking as an O/O for local co. with 150 mile radius.
I'm planning on purchasing used tractor 1995 or newer, sleeper or daycab.
Question, have I been inactive for too many years to qualify for O/O insurance, will ins co.
consider past experience?

Answer
Val,
The majority of insurance companies want to see 2 - 3 years current experience. Based on the carriers we represent, you would be considered inexperienced and I would not be able to get you insured.
That does not mean there is no one that will insure you. That simply means of the 8 carriers we use, you would not meet their criteria.
Alot of things have changed since the 1980's and I believe the insurance companies what drivers with experience in today's trucking climate.
You may want to ask OOIDA your question, perhaps they can help you.
