Question
Connie:
Are you aware of any legislation that is in the process or has been passed doing away with the waiting period for pre-existing conditions? I thought I had heard this was in the works but I can't find what the status is on it. I am very interested in knowing because a lot of the insurance companies I have looked into are requiring a 12-24 month waiting period.
Thanks.
Fran
Answer
Fran,
I also recall hearing something about legislation that "would" eliminate the pre-existing clause WHEN you go from one group to another. However, I can tell you from personal experience that the definition of "group" varies by insurance company and by state.
I went from one group program in Wisconsin to a group program in Illinois and the pre-existing was not waived.
We do not handle health insurance in the regular course of our business. I would suggest you contact your local independent agent and tap his brain.
Otherwise, you may want to research through the internet on "health insurance legislation".

Connie:
From what I have learned, it does not apply to individuals. If you have had insurance for 12 consecutive months and were in a group, in most cases the waiting period would be waived. If I come across any new information, I will pass it on to you. Thanks for your help.
