Answer
It is sometimes difficult to compare truck insurance among owner-operators when it is calculated on driver's age, experience, MVR, the value of the equipment, and the type of coverage being provided.
A 2001 Peterbilt at $100,000 can produce different premiums based on the driver and the operation.
It is important when comparing to compare apples to apples. That includes coverage, rating of the insurance company, deductibles, value of the equipment.
For the best comparison, select 2 - 3 sources, provide them with the same information, then compare prices, payment plans, service issues, etc.

Hi guys and Gal
I'am planning on buying my own gravel truck if the economy improves and when I heard 700 bucks a month that kinda turned me off. This guy my old man was talking to drives tractor trailer and thats alot of money. He does have a 98 truck though.
For straight trucks doesn't your insurance go by the gross weight of the truck. So a average gross on a graveler here is 58,000 pounds.
We have to deal with I.C.B.C here in B.C. Canada so I have no choice in insurance companies.
Keep posting if anybody else has any answers
Thanks

Answer
Our insurance for a million dollars liability runs about $472.00 a month per truck with 8 trucks. That doesn't include a quarter million dollar cargo insurance, which runs about $154.00 per month per truck. Then I still have general liability, trailer exhange, and collision insurance to pay. Not to mention accident insurance for my drivers.

Like the others said, insurance varies from state to state, type of operation, value of truck, insurance company, and many other factors. There is a plethora of different types of insurance policies, it's best to find out what is required by your state and the company you will be running for.
