Would you like some service with that policy?

Question
With the "hardening" market in truck insurance, I recently posted a User Poll on Truck Insurance. It was no surprise that price and service are head-to-head for first place.
So, what's the deal?
Well, it looks like people are being very conscientious with regards to costs and keeping them to a minimum. But, the bottomline does not always reflect the quality of service. In fact, you could buy the most expensive policy and not get any service in your time of need. And the reverse is also true.
So, how do you decide? If bottomline is your only concern, then that's simple. Go with the least expensive policy. But, if service is your primary concern, you may need to do some homework.
1. Talk to other truckers. Ask questions about the service they receive from their agent. Be sure to inquire into any claim service, both from the agent and the insurance company.
2. Returned phone calls. What is the turn-around time to get a returned call?
3. The agent. Can you get to your agent if you want to or are you always stopped by a receptionist or assistant?
4. Support staff. Does your agent provide knowledgeable and dependable support staff in his/her absence? (Agents need vacations too )
5. Timely billing. Does the billing arrive in plenty of time to remit a payment?
6. Explanations. When changes arise that affect you, does the agent notify you promptly and explain clearly the reasons behind the change?
These are just some of the service issues you may want to consider in selecting an insurance agent to service your truck insurance.

Answer
Makes perfectly good business sense to me, bigger is not always better.
And paying top premimum to see your concerns go unanswered is frustrating.
