Question

Question
Connie,
What type of insurance do you deal with? Any medical insurance questions. If not do you know in what direction to point me in.
Here is my problem, I am taking the pill to control other medical problems(basically so I wont have to have surgery). Is there any way to get a company to okay payment on them if it is for other medical reasons than to prevent pregnancy? Because I really don't want to go under the knife but will if I have to from having to pay for the pills every month.
Thanks
Kathrine

Answer
Kathrine,
I'm no health insurance expert and am not sure there are any.
Without going into great detail, perhaps I can offer some suggestions.
Do you have health insurance at this time? Has your doctor recommended this medication over the surgery? Have you gotten more than one medical opinion? Have you discussed this with your health insurance provider?
If you do not have insurance at this time, are you seeking coverage basically to pay for this medication? If you do not have coverage at this time, trying to obtain coverage with a pre-existing condition could be a problem.
I recommend you do the following:
1. If you are insured, contact your agent and discuss this with them in detail to get an opinion from your current insurance provider.
2. If you are not insured, contact 2 - 3 agents that write health insurance. Give them all the details and ask for a quotation. Be sure to give each the same information so you can compare apples to apples.
3. Be sure to check with area agencies, such as Chamber of Commerce.
4. Use the internet to seek out insurance providers. There is a wealth of information available.
Best of luck,
Connie
