Workmans comp. forced on me

Question
I live in Indiana. The truck plate is Indiana
as well as the co. I'm leased to. They say I must carry workmans comp. $ 42.50 a week.
I have only one truck and no employees.
I am told I can not collect on it.
My Questions are.
1. Do I really have to have it?
2. Is it true I can't collect?
3. Is occupational Ins. the same?
Thanks to all for any help you can give me.

Answer
Dwight,
Sounds like the motor carrier is contractually requiring you to prove Workers Compensation. If that is the case, the decision is do you want to work for this company and if so, you will need to meet their requirements.
As for the the price you're paying, the amount is more indicative to a policy that does cover the sole propropietor than not. As a minimum premium policy in Indiana is $750 annually without providing benefits to the sole proprietor.
Occupational Accident is not the same.
However, I believe you may have a couple alternatives. To better meet your particular needs and provide you with privacy with regards to this situation, may I suggest you give me a call at 800-933-7911 from Monday thru Friday from 9 - 5.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
