--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My neighbor, who drives for a company in their truck, would like to buy his own tractor to put me in and either lease to Pacer or get his own authority. What are the ins. requirements that would be involved? We know he would have to get his own ins. but what are the laws concerning someone else driving it? Would I be able to drive under his ins. or would I, myself have to be cleared through his ins.? He is going to remain with his company job but run his truck as a seperate buisiness. I have a DUI from 3/03 but he is comfortable and confident with the way and how I drive and is doing this to help me get back OTR and make a little money on the side. I am calling some insurance companies to get quotes on what it would cost for me to be insured and am pretty confident we can make this work. Any information will be helpful. I am posting this here because I know Opie and John Q. are well versed on the laws and regs. of the industry.
Thankyou in advance,
Steve

Answer
Your buddy just needs to have the usual insurance (liability, cargo, physical damage, or just physical damage if you lease on to another carrier) and add you to the policy as a driver, the same as you would for a car insurance policy. Just hope the insurance company will look passed the DUI.

Answer
Regarding your question...Slow Eddie is correct. Your friend just needs to get the coverage specified depending on his operation and have you approved. However, with the DUI, that is doing to be very slim. Some companies will not take any driver with a DUI in the past 3 years, some look at 5 years and some will say "ever".
