Need to vent!!!!!!!!!!

Question
I just got off the the phone with my insurance company after finding out I've been charged $819.00 per year for liability coverage for a non-owned trailer which I've never pulled because I have two tractors and one trailer. I was told that this is industry wide standard operating practices. I have spoken to my state insurance commissioner and they informed me that there was nothing they nor I could do about it. This practice just isn't right.
Maybe I'll feel better now................( Not Likely)

Answer
Liability pricing is usually charged on a per unit basis. When dealing with a tractor-trailer combination, some companies attribute a portion of the premium to the tractor and a portion to the trailer. Others assign the premium to the tractor and show the trailer as included. It varies from company to company.
In the case of power units outnumbering trailers, it is "presumed" that you will be using both vehicles to haul freight and you can't haul freight without a trailer, therefore the charge.
While there are some individuals that maintain a spare tractor, the general trucker does not, so it is presumed that you are operating both vehicles.
While this may not make you feel any better, perhaps it will shed some light on the issue.
