InsuranceQuestion

Question
Need help. I am buying a truck in my home state, PA. I need to have insurance to take delivery of the truck and buy a metal base plate. I will only be bobtailing home a distance of 85 miles. Once at home the truck will be sitting appoximately 1 month before I start running with it. Also, there will be no loan on the truck so I don't need to satisfy anyone there. I just want to be able to buy the truck, pay for the plates, pay the 2290, get my IFTA sticker and then be ready to lease to a carrier. I am trying to decide between two ways to go. Either leasing on with a company, or getting my own authority.
Either way I am financially stable, but just new to the O/O side of the business.
Any suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Without a permanent lease to a motor carrier in place or at lease a letter of intent, you may have some trouble getting Non-Trucking Liability to get the vehicle home. Your alternative is to purchase primary liability coverage (could be expensive for your situation).
The other alternative is to find an insurance company that will give you a "trip policy". Those could be few and far between.
But, without liability, you would be taking a very big chance in moving that vehicle.
