Question
Wondering if we should look elsewhere for insurance. I have a squeaky clean record as far as accidents. We pay $108.80 for cargo, $24 for reefer breakdown, $74.41 for trailer ins. on '97 Utility trailer, and $405 on a 1999 Freightliner. What are your thoughts?
Answer
It's very hard to compare insurance rates from company to company without knowing some specifics. There are a multitude of variables to consider in truck insurance ... valuation of equipment, limits of policy, and state requirements just to name a few. I own a 99 KW-900L that I have insured at $60,000.00 with $1,000,000.00 bobtail liability and pay $245.00 a month. I do have 1 accident on the record, so that bumps it up a little. I'm sure Connie the Ins. Lady will chime in and help you out when she gets a chance.

Answer
Roundabout,
If you are carrying Primary Liability at $1,000,000, Cargo at $100,000 with Reefer Breakdown and Physical Damage on your equipment (not knowing the value of your trator and trailer), the numbers you mentioned are not out of the ballpark. Again, it all depends on the specifics.
Guardrail,
Based on the information you supplied and depending on the commodities you're hauling, there are markets available that might save you a little money.
Answer
Connie,
I am always interested in saving money, that's the name of the game out here. I shopped around and all the quotes I got were within $20 of each other. I do have the one preventable accident on my record, so that's why it is a little higher. Let me know if I can save enough money in insurance to buy a new truck.
