partial deafness

Question
I know that I am from Canada and things may differ from country to country but, I was wondering if anybody has heard of someone not being able to drive or get licensed by the DOT because of hearing loss?
Thanks kindly for your time.

Answer
The US DOT requirements for medical certification do cover hearing loss.
You must be able to perceive a forced whisper at a distance of 5 feet or more with or without hearing aids. If not, you must go to an audiologist and have a regular hearing screening done. If your hearing can not be improved through the use of hearing aids, then you must try to get a waiver through the state. This is often not an easy process, but it can be done and hearing is easier to get a waiver for than some of the other items, like eyesight.
Does Canada require a medical exam every 2 years like the US does?
