Question
I take Flomax(tamulosin hyrochloride,0.4) once a day before going to sleep. My question is does Flomax prohibit one from driving a commercial vehicle? If not, how do companies look a possible hires taking Flomax, if you know? Are there any alternatives to Flomax. Thanks for any info you may have.
Answer
You don't mention how long you have been taking Flomax. It has the potential to cause some dizziness and fainting in some people who have LOW blood pressure. If you have been taking it for awhile and are not having dizzy spells, you should be fine.
I always advise drivers that ANY TIME a physician prescribes medication for them, there should be a written statement provided to the driver indicating thast the Doctor is aware of your job duties and responsibilities and that the prescribed medication will NOT affect your ability to safely perform the duties of a CMV.
Now, keep this in mind. Because this medication does have an effect on blood pressure, it can interact adversely with other blood pressure medications. If you do not take medication for high blood pressure, no problem. If you do, or begin a new one, be very careful that your Dr. knows about the potential for side effects from Flomax.
If you begin to experience any dizziness or fainting, please let your Dr. know right away. There are other medications for treatment of Benign Prostatic Hypertension, but the decision as to what treatment is best for you is up to you and your physician.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
