Question
I need your help? What is DOT requirements and views on eyesite and the use of corrective lenses and glasses. I would like to try a new career in trucking but not feeling sooo confident on passing the eye exam. Are there any waivers out there? Your help would be rewardingly thankful.

Answer
Bruce,
The regulations state that the driver must have 20/40 vision or better in each eye and separately with or without corrective lenses. Must also be able to distinguish the colors of traffic signal devices (red, green, amber).
Just how bad is your vision? Is it correctable to these standards?
Waivers are available but are most often given to experienced drivers with impeccable safety records (according to MVA records). Here in Maryland, it is often difficult for a newbie and almost impossible for a part timer.
Let me know if you have further questions, will be happy to assist if I can.
