Additives .....

Question
While I don't always practice what I preach, the very make up of the human body is the result of more years of development than any chemical additive to the foods we eat.
All the mono stuff, the tri stuffs, the artifical stuff, is NOT what we were designed to survive on!
Natural foods, either fresh or dried, seem to be the best diet.
Monty
(Oh .. processed sugar .... our intake of it has grown a thousand times over in the past hundred years.)

Answer
Absolutely correct Monty.
Just look at what the studies have shown when artificials were removed from the diets of children with behavior and learning disorders.
I know first hand what some of this garbage did to my kids. When I began removing the artificial colors and flavors from my kids diets, they had MAJOR behavioral and learning changes. This was no easy task back then because it was prior to the time that everyone started paying attention to that stuff. It was very difficult to buy foods that did not contain them. For instance, Kix was the only cereal not containing any of those things. Now YOU try to get a kid to eat THAT with no sugar. HA! Now they did discover that putting orange juice (instead of milk)on their cereal was pretty tasty. And it really isn't bad. They still eat it that way.

Answer
As for monosodium glutamate, sold commercially as "Accent" brand meat tenderizer, and used as an additive in many prepared foods, a study I came across showed some disturbing results.
A large number of baby mice were fed varying amounts of monosodium glutamate and sacrificed. One hundred percent of the mice developed brain lesions as compared to a control group. That was enough for me to swear off MSG forever. I'm sorry I don't have the date of the study and the Journal reference handy.
Monosodium Glutamate, when mixed in a paste, however, is excellent for relieving the pain and discomfort of an insect bite or a jellyfish encounter.
Two researchers named Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw wrote a book called "Life Extension", which may still be in print, and had some excellent observations both pro and con additives.
