hip replacement

Question
Nurse Red, I'm going to have a hip replacement within the next year. could you tell me anything about what to expect? How long in a hospital? How long to recover? do you have any idea what it may cost? Can it be done as outpatient? What risks are involved? How long can I expect to be off work? Thanks

Answer
It's been a very long time since I worked the med/surg. unit, but I do know the recovery time is very fast!
You are gotten out of bed almost right away. There is not as much discomfort as one might think. You will be up and walking within a week. As for going back to work, that may be awhile. Simply because of the climbing involved. Your surgeon should be able to give you more concise answers.
But you are going to be amazed at how fast you are up and about. Good luck to you. Keep us posted on how you do.

Answer
Although individual doctors and hospitals vary, this will give you a good basis of knowledge from which to proceed:

Armed with this, you can ask your surgeon specific questions. And don't be afraid to ask!!!! For what he or she is being paid, a few moments to answer well thought out and appropriately researched questions is the LEAST they can do for you!!

Answer
Great site Pyscho! Thanks!
There is a lot of info there that should answer most of the questions.
Don't know where you find this stuff, but I sure am glad you do!
Sure you don't want to come to Baltimore and work for me? LOL
