Can anyone tell me what the DOT rules are for ADHD, or where I can get info?

If you are refering to the use of Adderal or Retalin. I was told the following by the NY State DOT. As long as you can provide a perscription in your name from your doctor and you do not suffer from the side effects that could occur from using these drugs, you could use them. But it is very important to inform your employer about it asap as he has to cover his butt in case of a drug test that comes back positive.
I have two drivers that use Adderal and they monitor the side effects constant. It is better to drink less coffee and follow a strict diet also exercise daily for at least 20 minutes. There is a great book written by Dr. John Halloway and it is called Driven to Distraction. Also a good book on the subjects ADHD Secrets of success by Thom Hartman. Both books give tips on how to survive and thrive without medication.

Nurse Red said something about Ritalin may not allow you the sleep or rest DOT requires . There is nothing in the DOT regulations regarding sleep or rest . There is nothing defining off duty rather than being relieved of all duties .

With proof of my perscription, both SNI and my D.O.T. physical physician told me that use of Adderral XR is acceptable. I haven't had any problems so far.Diary of a Swift Driver

I would also like to add that while taking any kind of medication that affects the central nervous system, it is a bad idea to intake stimulants such as caffeine and nicotine.Diary of a Swift Driver
