Question
Have the DOT physical standards become federally regulated now?
Heres why I ask. I live and am licensed in WV but work in MD. My company sends me to a MD doctor for my CDL physical. Ive always just taken a copy of the WV DOT physical form in with me and theyve use that. I went in 2 weeks ago for my physical and they promptly threw my form away stating they have there own. The WV form states the max BP for a two year card is 160/90, their form states 140/90 for a two year card. Has anything changed in the last two years as far as the BP standards? Should they be using the standard for the state in which I hold my CDL?
Another question. When I go back in three months, do I need the whole physical again or do I just need to have my BP checked to get my card extended. Im also not clear if the card gets extended for one year or two if I can lower my BP by means other than Rx.
The reason it matters to me is because my top number has always run close to or at 140. Needless to say, I only got a three month card this time around (thats another story why my BP was so high on that particular day).
On a side note, it may not matter because Ive taken this opportunity to lower my BP on my own. Through diet and exersize Ive already seen an average 4 to 5 point drop in my BP in just two weeks so I think I will avoid medication at this point. But, I would still like to know what the standard should be and what to expect when I go back in a couple of months.
How'd I do for a first post? Thanks.
Answer
Heres the WV form. It gets a little muddled as to how long the card is extended by if you lower it by natural means at the three month check. Is my physical only good for one year the rest of my life now?
