Migraines?????

Question
Hi...I was going through a pre-hire interview with a major trucking co. will not say who, but everything was going great as far as interview till medical part..was asked if I have migraines..being an honest person I said yes, (should have lied I guess)...but anyways, was told that it was against regs for me to drive that Dot regs say no, that this was a neurological conditon...end of interview.... Now get this, I already had passed my DOT physical and had my card in my hot little hand....I checked regs and there is NOTHING in regs about migraines...Needless to say this upset me deeply...anyways just wondering if anyone else has ever come across this problem...they never even consulted a higher up or Dr. or boss, an RN took it upon herself to make this decision, I was never even given a chance to go to my own Dr. to be evaluated and stuff..just sorry we don't want you sort of thing, and this was done all over the phone, not in person...I justt feel I was wronged...Yes I know a company can come up with any excuse not to hire you, but they never even give me a chance...I haven't had one in over a year and they were never bad and they never caused me to not be able to do my job..am not on any painkillers for them or anything, just take over the counter stuff...I had even had an MRI 4 years ago and rthere was NOTHING wrong with my brain or anything...never blacked out or anything...just wondering if anyone else has went through this and also do you think it was a bad call on their part and should I been given a chance?

Answer
about the only thing i can find in the regs close to what the nurse may be talking about is this

even though you say you haven't had one in over a year, what's to say that you won't get one driving down the road.
causes of migraines

these are things that drivers deal with every waking hour everyday we work.this may have been the reasoning why the nurse turn you down, maybe john q will see this and answer this

Answer
Karen, My daughter's MIL has migraines. She even had an extensive operation to try to fix them, and after all the pain of that, she still gets them.
You told the phone interviewer that "yes" you get migraines. Do you have an actual doctor's diagnosis of that? Couldn't you go to a specialist and see if you can get a clean bill of health after such a long time?

Answer
Yes I have been to the Dr. even had an MRI.everything was ok in there!!!!..They were NOT severe.....Never affected my driving or my job.....like I said, Don't take prescription painkillers or anything....just over the counter stuff...Yes, am going to go back to my Dr. and see what he thinks...Just feel they should have let me see my own Dr. before closing the door in my face.....Hey? Wouldn't you want to be given that chance too?

Answer
I'm just questioning if you should have said you have migraines, when you may not actually have them. As I said, a doctor's evaluation, if it should state there is no reason to believe you have or even had migraines, would be excellent. Since you said an MRI showed nothing, I would question the original finding of migraine. Ask the doctor if you need to mention migraine for job interviews, and go with that.

Answer
I have Migrains and I told my company I had them when I was hired and they still accepted me. Only issue is how often u have them and if you take drugs for them. The drugs make u drowsy so u cant drive if u have to take medication. There is no law regarding the Migrains but the company can choose not to hire u for it. Sad thing is they probly noted that on ur dac report too.
