Knee Replacement Surgery

Question
I'm scheduled for a total knee replacement on my left knee in September. I am a 42 year old male. My question is would I be able to drive for a living when totally healed? Otherwise I am in good shape (5' 11" and 185 lbs.).

Answer

Just responding to bring back to top.
Maybe someone with this can answer.
(Dad, age 83, had same Aug 15th...Begining to drive his car this week, released by the doc to do so begining with limited distances.at first........)
If you're given pre op exercises...do them faithfully to strengthen muscles you will need and helps you become familiar with the proper form ....as this is essential to follow good form and exercise regularly after the surgery....Doc will instruct you...
Best wishes for a complete recovery.Rejoice in the LORD

Answer

The DOT has fixed requirements for such things as vision and blood pressure, but just about anything else is left to the examiner's discretion. Once you have completed your recovery and you can climb into the truck and operate the clutch without requiring narcotics for pain, you should pass the physical.

Answer
Be sure you do EVERYTHING you are told by your doctor. Not doing the proper postop exercise and other requirements, will set you back.
How is your weight? Will you be putting more than the normal stress on the new knee?
When are you having the surgery, I'd like to keep you in my prayers.
I almost forgot to mention... two of my daughter's inlaws had the surgery. Both are doing well.

Answer

Max,
I am 42 years old and about 185 lbs and 5' 10" tall,so weight shouldn't be a factor.
I'll be having the surgery done in 2 days (on Thursday) at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.
Thanks everyone for your replies,as I have a plethora of questions after the surgery is finished concerning employment,as my job of 21 years (half my damn life!) has terminated me due to said problem with my knee (don't worry,I have a compensation lawyer,so my family isn't starving!)
I'll be in touch , and once agin, Thank you alot for the replies and prayers..

Answer
Gary, if you're interested in what others with the surgery have gone through, I can speak to the ones I know have had it. Let me know. God be with you on Thursday, and in your recovery period. Max
P.S. Your weight sounds perfect. Your face, however, needs help.

Gary

Answer
Just wanted to let you people know I made it through the surgery unscathe!!
It is however, the most painful I have ever gone through (this was my 6th). The Re-Hab is going to take a long time, but I know I'll be better off a few months down the road, and I will be glad that I did this.
I once again would like to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers and PM's (you know who you are! ) as I went through this. You are such kind people, and I appreciate everthing! I'll be in touch now that I am able to hobble over to the computer again after these past 2 weeks.(They just took the 50 staples out of my incision this morning!)
Thanks again,
Gary

Answer
Glad you're back at the computer, Gary. I know, it IS a painful surgery, but so is NOT getting the surgery, right? Keep us informed of your recovery, letting us know as you heal, that it is "according to the book."

Answer
Good to see ya back bro!
Just kill the pain with some alcoholic beverage of your choice! I'll tip a couple back for you tonight!
Follow the physiotherapist's rehab program and you'll be as good as a guy with both knees replaced.
Take care bud! They travel up your spine, into your brain
and that is where ****ty ideas come from!!!

Answer
Thanks alot Max and BDR!! I'll be fine in a few months,it's just that I'm raring to go now, but I'm only able to walk like a drunken Giraffe....
See you later,
Gary
