Hypothyroidism question

Question
I am a soon to be student driver, starting class in 2 weeks. I take a a 75 mcg dose of Synthroid daily for an underactive thyroid. Is this drug going to cause me any problems with getting hired? I wouln't think it would but want to be sure before starting classes. Thanks Mike

Answer
I don't believe so. Unless it causes drowsiness or has warnings regarding operating heavy machinery. I take blood pressure meds and many drivers take heart meds so I don't think your thyroid meds will be an issue.
How did you come to be diagnosed? Hypothyroidism is supposed to be difficult to diagnose. Does taking the drugs cause or help you to lose weight?

Answer

This should not be a problem.... Make sure your doctor writes scripts in quantity to keep you from missing daily doses on the road..

Hypothyroidism isn't difficult to diagnose...just often overlooked... When I was diagnosed my symptoms were vague aches and pains in muscles, especially legs, and joints. A blood draw to check for the TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is used among other tests which your doctor may order to rule out other diagnosis.
Some symptoms which may relate to 'hypothyroidism' (or 'Low' thyroid) are lower body temperature, vague feelings of lapse in mental alertness, constipation, higher cholesterol levels, sluggish metabolism, difficulty coping or adapting to thermal changes --especially the cold, and sometimes thinning skin or hair....among many other 'vague' or non-specific symptoms.
