Question
I have been wearing contact lenses for over 15 years now, and recently changed saline solutions.
For over 5 years, I had been using the Ciba Vision 5-Minute Quick Care saline solution, and did fine with it, other than the availability beginning to become a problem (not carried by as many stores anymore).
I switched to A.M.O. (Advanced Medical Optics) Complete Moisture Plus saline solution about a month ago, and a few days ago, noticed abnormal redness in my eyes when I looked in the mirror.
I took Claratin for this, thinking it was allergy-related, and wore my glasses for a few days. The redness in my eyes went away completely until yesterday, and after wearing my contact lenses for over 8 hours, the redness came back.
My prescriptions for my eyewear are current. I'm not on any prescription medication.
Has anyone else had a problem with A.M.O. saline solution before?
What kind of saline solution do you use now?
I'm contemplating grabbing a fresh set of lenses and going back to my old saline solution.
Any thoughts? Thanks! Not liable for any information posted.
Answer
I use the Wal_Mart store brand of the multi-purpose solution to clean my contacts.
Never had any problems with it irritating my eyes.
I think it is the Equate line. I dont remember. I ran out of contacts about 4 months ago and havent gotten any since then.
Answer
Hey CC.....I have been wearing contacts since 1981 and also used ciba products. I have been using Bausch & Lomb Renu multipurpose solution for a couple of years now.
Answer
I usually just use whatever is cheapest. Although the Renu finds it way into my cabinet alot.
Theres another one in a green box that I use sometimes too. The name escapes me at the moment.
Answer
Is this it??? Its also a good product.
Answer
Yep. That's the stuff. I think most brands have that no rub stuff now. I like that. No hassle. Just take em out and store them. Easy.
Does anyone wear the disposable lenses? I had some that were the kind that you wear for 2 weeks and throw out. I always wore mine about a month or so before I would switch. Anyone know if that is bad for your eyes? And if you do wear the disposables for longer, should you do the enzyme tablets? Even though with the disposables, you shouldnt' have to.
Answer
Lexmark, a person's eyes need a certain amount of oxygen, meaning that it is best to remove your lenses whenever you sleep.
My contacts are designed to where I can sleep in them, but I remove them beforehand anyway. With the impurities in the air, it helps to clean them more often anyway. I wear the disposable lenses that I can use for 2 months before I discard them.
Update: I did manage to find the saline solution I used before at a grocery store nearby, and I used it with a fresh pair of contacts yesterday- so far, so good! Not liable for any information posted.
Answer
Oh I know that. When I was in the navy, I usually just slept in them so I'd have one less thing to worry about in the morning when trying to get to quarters or to p.t. or whatever on time. But after my last exam when the eye doctor told me about all the scarring on my eye from sleeping in them, I stopped. I don't wear them as often now and when I do, I always take them out before I go to sleep.
I hate wearing glasses. It can be a real pain the @$$, especially in the winter. If I could afford it, I'd look into getting some type of laser surgery done. It'd be so nice to wake up and not have to put on my glasses to see.
Answer
I've been contemplating the laser surgery myself, but I want to see how well it works out in the long term for other people before I have it done.
I've never liked wearing glasses either, but I do wear them to give my eyes a break from the contacts once in awhile. One problem I have living in south Texas is I often walk into an air conditioned building from the humid, 100+ degree summer heat and the glasses fog up. It gets old fast. Not liable for any information posted.
Answer
The main problem that I have heard from the laser correction is that many people suffer from chronic dry eyes, even to the point of having blurred vision until drops are used to wet the eye, much like when contacts become excessively dried out.
Answer
Here's a site that has a good bit of information about various procedures for getting your eyes fixed.
http://www.allaboutvision.com/visionsurgery/
And I read something this womon wrote that had the lasik done, not sure if it's on the same site but she said her eyes were 20/400 and 20/200. After the surgery, she has 20/20 in both eyes.
Answer
I know this is an old post, but I thought I'd respond in it anyway.
Here goes:
Capt, where do you get that solution? I used to use it but cannot find it anymore.
Lex, I would reccomend using the tablets if you keep them longer than the designed 2 weeks. I do the same thing. I have a stigmitism (sp) so I have to use the toric lenses. They cost more so I do the ol' cheat thing and wear my 2-week contacts for a month (taking them out to clean them and let my eyes breathe of course). I use the tablets once or twice in that month and it seems to keep them pretty fresh. There's still nothing fresher feeling that when you put that brand new pair in. LOL
Oh and Lex, thanks for the link.Happiness is wanting what you have--- not having what you want.
