Nurse Red, Have a question.

Question
On 10/20/03 had a medical gong to work for a new company. Had a BP of 136/88 on meds, Tarka. Doc gave me a one year based on BP. Should this not have been a two year? Took report to my Doc, he said he had no idea why it was for only one year, do you have a clue. Going back in 10/14 for new medical and thinking about rasing HEii, if he only gives me a one year.
I have a real thing about Doc in a Box just wanting to generate revenue.

Answer

oldman,i'm not nurse red (obviously ),but i do have some medical background,a blood pressure of 136/88 is prehypertensive, which is probably why the dot doc put you on a limited time, the diastolic pressure is actually close to dot limits,as a bp of 160/90 or higher disqualifies you, here's a link to the various stages of hypertension

according to the chart, even though you are on high blood pressure medicine, your bp is still borderline hypertensive,it could be that all you need is a different blood pressure medicine

Answer
The 2 year physical is only a max amount of time a doctor can issue one for. It is not a garuntee. In addition, certain conditions, like high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, generally only get a 1 year certificate.
According to the regs, 391.43

Answer
uturn2001 & Lonewolf; Thanks for the replys.
Guess I'm just on my high horse.
Lonewolf made the quote that really urks me, "pressure of 136/88 is prehypertensive". With this logic 90/30 is also prehypertensive, but damn you sure would feel bad. That's my problem, I can get mine down lower but I feel like HELL.
That prehypertensive to me is asking how a sick person is doing and the reply is he's terminal, well the way I look at it, we're terminal the day we're born, but we've still got a ways to go.
Really looking at doing something on this one, going in in a few days for my new medical. Trying to have BP about 130/70 if he gives me another 1 year, doing a complaint to the state board. This outfit has all our medicals, if he can cut a 2 year to a 1 year, that doubles their revenue.
SORRY< JUST BLOWING OFF STEAM!!!!!

Answer
I think you missed something here.
If you are on medication for your high blood pressure then you are not suppose to get a 2 year certification even if your blood pressure is regulated to that of a world class marathon runner while sleeping.
If doctors is the past (since you have been on blood pressure meds) have given you 2 year certifications they did so in error.

Look at the bright side. At least you still have a job. I would gladly go in for twice yearly exams if I was allowed to drive, but since being placed a insulin for diabetes my driving career has been totally canned.

Answer
the old man
if you hadn't told the doc you were on medication the bp you had would have been good for a 2 year

Answer
Got my 2 year, with 135/72 telling the truth.
