Yes, there is a yearly requirement for sleep studies when you have been diagnosed and treated for sleep apnea.
Pricing will vary, so make some phone calls and let them know why you need the testing done. Some or all of the fees may be paid by your health insurance carrier.
The particular type of testing required is called Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT). Over a 2 hour interval, you are offered 4-5 opportunities to sleep.
They then determine how long it takes you to fall asleep after 'lights out'. Five minutes or less indicates excessive sleepiness.
The testing also looks for how often during those naps you reach deep or REM sleep.
They do take into account your age, time of day, continuity of sleep, ingestion of drugs, and duration of sleep on previous nites.
