Natural insect repellent for you next outing

Question
I thought I would pass this on for those who might like to try a more natural pesticide.
Essential oils: To keep mosquitoes, ticks, and other wee beasties from biting, some great insect repellents based on essential oils rather than chemicals. If you're into blending your own, there are many essential
oils known to repel insects: citronella, ucalyptus, lemon, lemongrass, lavender, peppermint, thyme and tea tree.
If you scent your massage/bath oil with
this blend of oil (or your own blend!) and use it for several days before going camping or vacationing outdoors, this will help keep the beasties from biting. suggests one drop of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier
oil.
A water-based repellent splash (or spray)
can be made: five drops essential oil, one tablespoon witch hazel, and four tablespoons water.
If you seem to be extra delicious to the bugs, she suggests two tablespoons carrier oil to 30 drops lavender oil.
Make up this blend in advance and rub on exposed skin as needed. Lavender oil and tea tree oil can generally be used "neat" (without dilution) on most people.
I told a friend about using a blend of lavender and tea tree oil (Desert Essence makes one) as an insect repellent. She reported that it worked better than anything
she'd ever tried!

Answer
OK Andy,
This sounds like it's worth a try. I'm going on vacation next week, I'd like to try this. Now, where can I find these oils? Do I have to go to some kind of specialty shop?

Answer
I would suggest finding a Herbal shop. I'm sure Baltimore will have a few of them.. LOL
AVONs Skin So Soft works too, but your supposed to mix it 50/50 with alcohal (sp?)
Another opition would be using your search engine and look under "Herbal oils"
Hope this helps
