I think I might have screwed up because I tried to fix my own ingrowed toe nails. I'm out here in arizona and I can hardly push in the clutch because my toes hurt so bad and I cant wear my shoes.
I dont have no medical insurance so I took my model knife and heated up and soaked my toes real good and then I sliced both sides of the nails on both toes and then ripped the nails off with my needle nose pliers. I watched the doctor do it to my grandaddys feet and it looked pretty easy but now my toes are really sore and got puss on them. I bought some alcohol and it burns pretty good but it aint curing it. What about peroxide will that work?

Peroxide probably will work better than alcohol. You are looking at infection since you are seeing pus. I would leave my shoes off while I drive and if you have white socks I would wear them. You probably ought to stop at some medical clinic and let them look at your toes. Insurance or no insurance, you best get some attention.

Hey TTS, this is the mother in me asking, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? I understand about having no insurance, but this is something you cannot take care of by youself. I myself had in-grown toenails from botched pedicures (improper cutting of the nail). Needless to say I don't have pedicures done by no one except doing it myself. The DR visit and medicine will cost you around $200 to correct this, please don't delay any further because the infection will spread and then you will have more serious problem.

You are looking at a possible absess.I would get to a doctor asap,preferrably a Podiatrist(foot specialist)and let him/her fix it the right way.I too had this problem and the Dr. I went to removed the ingrown toenail and then "killed the matrix" using some kind of acid.This prevents the nail from ever becoming ingrown again.I had this done twenty odd years ago and I have never had a problem since.Hope you get better soon.

Just to update on the procedure that the podiatrist will do... the DR no longer uses acid, they now use a laser to burn the nail along the infected side and a good DR will do the non-infected side of the nail to prevent the nail from growing into the skin. This procedure was done on my son a year ago.

As everone else Has said you need to get in and see a DOC. ASAP or you could end up like a friend of mine did and staff infection will set in. she is in having surergey once a day for the last week and will have to stay at least another week.
The DOC. told her if she would have waited another 12 hours she could would have died.
Watch for any redness or any cahange of color if this happens you are heading on the same path as she did.
$200 to $400 now is a lot better then the $1000nds it could cost.

Hydrogen Peroxide will eat the good flesh as well as the bad if used full strength. At least delute it 2 parts water to 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide. You may have made a bad situation worse and will end up going to the doctor anyway. The trip home is going to be a very long haul. You need to be put on antibiotics, have the wounds cared for PROPERLY which will include clean dressings and probably and antibacterial ointment. But Neosporin alone won't fix this, neither will keeping your shoes off and wearing white socks.
You need medical attention right away!! If you see any red streaking get to a hospital immediately. You think seeing a DR. is too expensive??? You could wind up in a hospital getting IV antibiotics!!! Wait til ya see THAT bill!

Hydrogen Peroxide as sold over the counter will NOT "eat the good flesh as well as the bad". Sorry to dispute you Rose but over the counter Hydrogen Peroxide is already diluted to a 2% solution.
The solution is to go to a Doctor ASAP
If that is not possible go to a drug store or Wal-Mart and buy Neosporin (an antibiotic) WITH Lidocane (a pain killer) It should help with the pain and the infection in the SHORT term.
WATCH OUT FOR REDNESS SPREADING UP YOUR FOOT AND RED STREAKS GOING UP YOUR FOOT OR LEG
GO TO A DOCTOR
Now, your ingrown toe nail will grow back and be just as bad as before as you did not kill the root bed of the nail.
SO DON'T BE SO CHEAP.
Go to the Doctor and get it taken care of the right way!!!!!!!
If you decide to do it yourself again, next time just go to a hardware store buy yourself a sharp Axe and ...................
