what are symptoms of a hernia?

Question
What also are the causes of a hernia?, what is the symptoms of a pulled groin (or pulled groin muscle(s))? What is the differences between the two? How are both treated by medical physicians?

Answer
You will notice a bulging area especially when straining.
A hernia is an actual tear in the wall of a muscle. This tear then lets the organs or tissue behind it protrude thru the tear.
This can be especially dangerous when a portion of the bowel is what is protruding thru. The bowel can twist around on itself or become trapped outside of the tear. This is referred to as an incarcerated hernia and when the blood supply to the trapped area is shut off, gangrene sets in quickly. This is a life threatening situation. Surgery is the only option here.
Minor hernias can often be reduced (put back in place) manually by a physician. But this a only a temporary fix.
Some are treated with a truss or support which attempts to keep things in plaace while the muscle wall heals (hopefully).
A groin pull is usually just a strained or pulled muscle in the groin area. It is generally slow to heal and quite uncomfortable. Rest and anti-inflammatories are just about the only remedy for this. There may be some slight swelling but no definite bulging as with the actual hernia.
Any of these conditions should be evaluated by a physician as soon as possible.
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.
