Question
My wife just got results of bone scan, shows tumors on hips ribs and spine. Going to oncologist tom. am should we expect the worst or not? I have heard this can be very bad she is my bride of 25 yrs. Also my medical insurance just came into effect 7-1 but she has no history of this before, are they going to say this is pre-existing?

Answer

Answer
Welldigger,
I can not predict the outcome of either aspect of this question. I have no idea what the oncologist will say, nor do I know the policies and practices of your particular insurance company.
This I can tell you though. There are numerous tests and procedures available for the diagnosis and classification of tumors. I suggest that all are utilized and that more than one opinion is obtained on diagnosis as well as ensuing treatment plans. This can help insure accuracy, allow for informed decision making, and increase peace of mind for you and your bride.
May I suggest that you both go into this with the highest of hopes. I have seen enough first hand evidence to know that patients with a positive outlook always fare the best even if the face of the most serious conditions.
I wish I had a crystal ball to see the future so I could answer these questions for you, but I don't.
Know that I am here to help with any questions or concerns you may have and that my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. Please keep me posted on the situation.
