Question
I'll skip the long story, but I call the same safety department or company nurse department and get conflicting answers.
What do you know about the following prescriptions being able to be used under a Doctors authorization or that DOT are against.
Effexor XR
Depakote (substitute for Lithium)
Celebrix (arthritis) (appears to be ok to take)
Ultram (synthetic pain killer)
Hydrocodone (lorcet)($cheap) (pain as needed)
Prevacid (appears to be ok to take)
I need to find out if the Effexor XR and Depakote are ok or need to be changed.
Also the Ultram would be nice to keep but the hydrocodone I could do without cause of PT exercises.
Full information below should further information be helpful
I use to work in computers/electronic fabrication (sometimes for government contracts) until I got sick from exposure to processes used to produce them and ended up on government disability. The guess is that there was a genetic predisposition that triggered a need for trying different antidepressants and at one time the usage of Busbar. Lithium never seemed to have an effect and some help was found in the use of Depakote. Following was the development of arthritis especially in the hips
Three years later I retrained in Trucking under a trial work period of 45 months. The government wrote me off as easier to pay money than rehabilitate and after a little short of 3 years driving I went back on disability (I didn't have a significant other at that time.)
I got remarried 5 years ago and so to help her semi retire early I am planning on going back to work driving truck to help pay off the house. I think that my body might hold out driving a truck for 5 years.
Your help would be appreciated in finding out if Effexor is ok or if I need to get on something different. I have been doing PT physical therapy exercises for reducing the need for pain pill usage for present in the neck/arthritis.
Regards,
Bruce

Answer
This is going to be entirely up to the examining physician who does your DOT physical.
Please read the advice given to a recent poster about his meds. A letter from your physician with the proper info may help.
My gut feeling is that the combination of Lorcet, Effexor, and Depakote are going to give you problems.
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.

Answer
Would effexor and depakote without Lorcet be more acceptable?
The doctor(s) letters will not be a problem since I have been taking these meds for 3 years and other variations for 13 years.
The lorcet has been as needed for pain in the neck close to the skull. I haven't needed it in the 3 plus months of PT exercises. It seems to be a combination from arthritis and getting hit crossing the street and getting hit by a Ford Bronco.

Bruce
