Question
Is there a listing somewhere on the net of drugs that you can take and drugs that you can not take while driving?
Answer
Controlled substances such as Marijuana, Cocaine, Amphetamines/Methamphetamines, opiates, and PCP are prohibited. Testing positive for such will get you in big trouble if not fired.
Medications for disease conditions will need to be explained during the physical exam process and may lead to medical disqulaification.
Taking any medicatio that will affect your ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicles is a BIG NO NO!
If your physician places you on any type of medication, have him/her issue a letter indicating that they are aware of the job duties of a CMV operator and that in their opinion the medication will not affect the driver's ability to safely operate the CMV.
And use your common sense. If the label says, may cause drowsiness or dizziness, don't take it while on duty. If the labeling says "Do not operate machinery or drive while on this medication" DON'T DO IT!
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.
