Another Blood Sugar Question for Nurse Red

Question
I am a type II diabetic and keep my blood sugar level controlled. I am due for a physical in 2 weeks my Sugar level in my blood averages between 104 and 110 and I eat regular meals and I dont skip and try to eat particular times. I notice my sugar levels sometimes increase to around 120 or so right after a meal then drop back down to the normal range. It causes me some concern that I may have to take the physical at a time when I may have just eaten since it will be given while we are attending a driver training session and we can get called at anytime. Will this raise a flag if I dip stick test at around between 110 and 120 or can I have them wait for about another hour and show that it does come to a normal range. I do carry my test kit with me most places just in case I think my sugar level has dropped to low.
Any help would be great.
Ed

Answer
I don't think you should have anything to worry about if it is only jumping up to around 120 or even 140 for short periods of time, especially right after you eat. This is normal in a non diabetic to have sugar level jump for an hour or two immediately after eating.
If you are worried about the physical just get your primary physician (the one treating you for diabetes and does your AC1 tests) to write a note stating that you are being treated and that it is under control.
Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe.

Answer
You can check your urine for sugar with a dipstick. This is how the examiner will test you for the DOT physical.
Also try and plan your appointment for a time just before a meal.
Good luck and good job keeping things under control.
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.
