Question
If I knew a little number like you was around Jessup. I not have bypassed it to go to Millersville, MD..lol
Anywho at what level of glucose, will you show protien on those strips? I mean my Doc says " sub 180 prevents organ damage. I've been taking Glucophage but it's not getting it done. Time to see the doctor. And, how long should it take for glucose and protien to come in line with RX?
Thanks
Answer
I can tell you for starters dont worry about those test strips if you are thinking about it as far as passing a DOT exam. You need to be concerned with your overall blood sugar levels more, and this can only be done by testing your sugar levels as based on your doctors advice.
As far a glucophage goes it takes about a week to start working and about a month for stable effect to be noticed. If after a month or 2 it still does not seem to be working (and you are following your doctors advice as far as diet and excercise) then you need to discuss this with your doctor and see about having your meds changed.
Your doctor may either up your dosage of glucophage, add another med to it such as glucotrol, try you on another med all together.
I too had no luck at all on glucophage (and actually ended up having a reaction to it after about 1 1/2 months in the form of a rash) My doctor ended up putting me on Avandia 4 mg and then upped it to 8mg a day when the 4 only got part of the job done (prob spelled it wrong) and then we had to add Amyril to it to bring everything in line. It took several months of working with my doctor, a dietician, and some trial and error on my part to bring everything in line, but now things are going great.
Best of luck to you.
Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe.
Answer
I would think a Hemoglobin A1C blood test would be a better indicator of compliance. Has your Dr. run one of those? If so, what was the level?
Below 8 is normal. Taking two Hgb A1C's at varied times will show how well the treatment is working as you get closer to normal readings.
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.
