Colorblindness

Question
I was wondering if being colorblind will not allow me to get a CDL.
I am what they call Deutan. I can not decipher shades of red. I know it is red but not sure if it is pink or dark red. That is what they say.
To me I think I can tell the difference and everyone around me tells me I am right, and they are not messing with me most of the time. LOL
But I was just curious if it would hold me back from driving.
Thanks,

Answer
I am color blind, to pastels anyway. When they open that book and ask me what I see, I think they are playing games! I see nutin!
However, the testing facilities will have some sort of colored objects to test your basic color levels, usually something red, green and yellow.
I have never failed one yet ....

Answer
The regs. state you must be able to distinguish and identify red, yellow, green.
However, many examiners, including state MVA's, will try to fail you for ANY degree of colorblindness. You must stand your ground with the examiners.
They use what is called an Ishihara test. (The circles with numbers inside) These test for any and all degrees of colorblindness. Not just red, green, yellow.
