Question
With the close of 2002 the wife and I had hoped that 2003 would be a better year health wise, boy were we wrong.
Last Saturday morning I took my wife into the Emergency room for upper chest and upper/side abdominal pains. It turns out her kidney and liver shut down the pains were related to both and she was admitted that day.
It has been a rough 7 day's for her, while in the hospital it was one test after another plus having to go thru dialysis which she will continue 3 days a week as a out patient. The doctors are hoping for a complete recovery of the kidneys and liver, so far the liver is showing positive results the kidney's on the other hand are a little more troublesome. The doctors feel that they will come back to normal but it could take 2 to 6 weeks for this to happen so in the meantime we are restricting her diet and fluid intake and going through the dialysis treatments.
2002 closed with issues on my health .. I have a mass on my left lung that turned out to be a infection. I have been trying to get that to go away since August. I currently go in once a month for blood work and x-ray's then to my Doctor to check out the status, so far it has been shrinking but at a very slow pace.
What does this have to do with trucking ... well I'm glad that I have been able to be with her throughout this ordeal. It makes me realize what you men and woman go through when something like this happens to a member of your family and your miles from home .. not a easy thing to deal with.
Dave Sweetman once told me to be carefull for what I wish for it just may come true ... Dave I'm glad I never became a driver .. at least not yet I have some things here at home to attend to and right now they are my number one priority.
Sorry for the long message ..just needed to vent a bit!

Ramman, RC and PK, thanks for the prayer's and thought's, it amazies me how little we are prepared to deal with some of the thing's that life throw's our way.
PK, I'm also looking foward to the day when she can start giving me hell once again .. oh wait she never really stopped doing that I think .. lol!
I hope your wife get's better soon, then we can trade our stories of hell instead of health issue's ...lol!

Just when you think you have a handle on things .. the dam handle falls off!
My wife was released from the hospital Friday still needing to go to dialysis but as a out patient. We were happy to at least get her home where we were hoping she could rest, a hospital is no place to be when your sick and need to get some sleep. Well on Sunday I had to take her back into emergency after attempts to bring her blood pressure under controll failed.
It looks like she will remain in the hospital for the next day or so and may under go a needle biopsy on the kidney Wednesday. she spent the day yesterday undergoing more test plus dialysis the good news is that her blood pressure is still at a exceptable level.
Has anyone ever gone through something like this themselves or with family or maybe a freind? I'm looking to see some light here or some hope that the kidneys will start functioning on there own .. so far the doctors are still telling us that this is acute failure and they expect them to return to normal. I'm tired and wanting answer's when nobody can really give them ... I'm not good at standing by when it comes to this sort of stuff.

Last night I just returned home from Evansville, Ind from my 21 year old daughter's funeral after an overdose.(Not sure but, think, hope and pray it was an accident).
So, we understand brother. An this evening I will pray for your family.
Your going to find, Kidneys help regulate blood pressure. So, with Kidney trouble often comes BP trouble as well.

Huett38, if anyone should be saying prayers it should be my family to yours for the loss of your daughter. It doesn't take long to find someone going through rougher times then yourself in this world. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time in your lives.
My wife made it home Wednesday afternoon and so far so good her blood pressure although still high it is manageable for her. Her kidneys output seems to be increasing daily and from what we were last told the liver has just about returned to normal. The doctors still believe she will recover 100% which is good news.
As we look back over the events it has become a little clearer as to why this might have happened and as hard as it is to admmit we both feel it was over use of prescription drugs. She had been taking medication from 2 to 3 different doctors without anyone of the 3 having the complete information.
I spent some time with her primary doctor yesterday showing him the different meds that the other doctors had been giving her, he was thankful for the information and even contacted one of the doctors to let him know what had happened and that they needed to talk as soon as possible.
Lesson learned ... don't play this game if you loose you may loose big .. ask yourself is it worth it? I'm just as responsible as she is I should of asked more questions and paid more attention to what was happening.
I have 3 large sip lock bags of medication that I have collected from around the house prescription and over the counter she asked me to remove them from the house she couldn't stand to see anything in a bottle. This has scared the hell out of her so much so that she is having a harder time mentaly dealing with it.
Thanks again for letting me vent but most of all thanks for your thoughts and prayers .. life is a tough enough road as it is why do we make it tougher at times?

It's been almost 20 day's since my wife fell ill with acute renal failure it has been a roller coaster ever since.
It is settling down I'm glad to say .. this weeks visit with the liver doctor went better then we expected .. he has basicly told her she is on the road to recovery and should not have to return.
Her kidney doctor on the other hand was not so sure so the plan is to take a lab test on Monday wait for the results and go from there. Her doctor gave us two possible plans .. one if the kidney seem to be functioning at least 25% of normal she may stop the dialysis and remove her cathitor and watch her on a weekley basis for a while. Two if the kidney's aren't working at the percentage that she would like then the wife would continue her dialysis and they would have to remove her current cathitor and replace it with one that goes under the skin in a different area.
All in all she is feeling better as the day's go by so I'm grateful for that. It's wait and see what this test tells the doctor we are hoping for the best but know it a 50 50 chance either way.

Well some folks are still looking at this post so I will update it.
My wife is doing great .. her kidney's started to function normaly as of last Friday which meant that she no longer needed to go to dialysis. She is still a little weak and tires easily but this improves as the day's go by.
