Question
I was involved in a "mishap" back in January when I fell 15' off a roof and shattered my Tibia just below the knee.
After months of torturous therapy I am finally being released. My walking is good but still with a slight limp. I walk usually 1-1.2 miles a day either in the neighborhood or the treadmill at the gym, plus a slew of other excercises to regain strength. I have 80* Rang of motion and am praying for an additional 20-30*. However I have a really cool plate and a bunch of screws holding things together!
Will any of this have any bearing on a DOT physical? I will be disabled to a certain extent for the rest of my life, but am able to throw the clutch in both my personal pick up and a new Freightliner I tried.
Sorry this is such a long post.
Answer
That any abnormality of the extremities be noted on the exam form and that examiner must make sure that the person has the strength and mobility to operate pedals safely, grip and turn the steering wheel.
If you can do all of that, there should be no problems. Mind you pressing the pedals once is NOT a good indicator. Can you do it safely and for extended periods of time without difficulty or weakness?
Another good question. You guys have been coming up with some good ones lately.
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.

Answer
for replying. The Freightliner I sat in I dumped the clutch a dozen and a half times continuously without any problems.
I currently drive a Ford Ranger with a 5 speed and having to drive into Boston twice a week for physical therapy wasn't a problem at all. Well except that they just do not know how to use turn signals!
Again thank you for responding!
