Question
I tried that 48 juice drink diet. Dont do it!
After 2 days of not eating i may of lost 8 pounds but when i started to eat again i had severe pains in my sides and back. It felt like a huge wrestler was squeezing me to death! It hurt really bad. After about an hour it went away, then it came back in the middle of the night. After rocking back and forth in my computer chair it slowly went away. It never came back since. I dont know what happened to me but i will NEVER to that to my body again.

Answer
Most of that 8lbs was probably water loss. Some people fast by drinking water and some juice (real juice) but fasting is only good for people who are very healthy and in very good shape and they fast about 5 days twice a year.
I'm quessing you bought the CA diet or Fl diet drink. basicly both are the same.
Nothing beats eating the right foods and exercise and small portions through out the day. Real food and old fashion vitimins like One A day etc.
These so called miracle suppliments are not FDA regulated and are a waste of money. The infro commercials that sell these products are a scam and racket.
Old fashion exercise like walking or swimming not only burns fat and builds muscle but also over time starts a chemical process that burns fat faster and and promotes mental health.
People who are in good shape, eat right and exercise regularly, sleep better, much less likely to suffer from depression. they feel good phyically and mentally.
I know, I use to work hard all day 5 days a week at my job. Looking back, I remember, I felt good all the time. I was physically and mentally fit and these two are dependent on one another.
You often hear people say, "they have to exercise". It's true, once you get to a certain point, you have too, you cannot sit still. It's like being hooked on a drug. On weekends, I have to take my bicyle out on 10 mile runs even after the workout I'd get all week at work. Your metabolism changes and you constantly burn fat in active and idle periods.
I hate exercising in of itself. My job forced me to exercise because of the nature of the work. That's how I learned working out everyday is addictive.
When I left that job, quess what, the daily on the job exercise stopped and the bike rides slowly became less and less, than stopped altogether.
Now that I've been there done that, I'm able to make the two comparisons on how I felt then, and now. I don't get any exercise now because I'm not forced to like I was at work. To me, exercise sucks now. When your getting a lot of exercise, you crave more of it and you actually eat less and burn fat just standing still. I had no appetite for junk food like candy, chips fries etc. Now I do and 40lbs over.
Like many others, I don't have the dicipline to exercise, unless I'm forced to through a job.
Everyone says just walking everyday works. I believe them, I have no doubt about that. It helps if you have a friend who wants and likes to walk. You can walk anywhere, around the block, through a field, in the snow. I've seen people jogging in snow storms or 5 below in my travels.
It's just that getting up and go that's tough. Not an easy thing for many, including me.

Answer
I am really sorry you tried something like 48-hour diet or most over-the-counter things. I am a Registered Dietitian and it scares me what people will do to themselves rather than seek out a professional - a real professional, not a "nut"ritionist!
Anyway - I am going to be starting research on truck drivers and your health issues. Please- everyone write me, email me - etc with any concerns or thoughts on health.
Thanks!
Answer
it is almost impossible to find low fat or no fat food on the road. Am stuck with pretzels and slim fast bars. Have yet to find WOW potato chips in any vending machine or convenience store. I heard Mc donalds is going low fat oil but until they do the fast food joints are off limitds to me. It is really tough to lose wt or bring your cholesterol down.
Answer
The human body was designed to process solid foods for energy. When the body is deprived of solid food for a legnth of time it does try to adapt and then when it gets the food back it adapts back the other way. Sometimes this swinging back and forth will cause all sorts of cramps, etc as your body is attempting to switch gears. (Kinda think of it like going 30 mph down the road and throwing the tranny into reverse for a minute and then back into drive again.)
The best way to loose weight, and to keep it off is the simple tried and true method of eating right and using more calories in a day than you consume.
More than likely you did not put on the weight you are trying to lose in a few days so it is not reasonable to expect to lose it in a few days.
I have a name not a number. I am not cheap but I am resonable.
Answer
Hi Cabover-
I agree with you - it is not easy to find low-fat foods on the road- but - not impossible! Here are a few suggestions- then yall tell me how practical this is, ok?
First off- Subway is one of the BEST places you can eat. The Ads really are true- they have 6 (or 7) Sub sandwiches under 6 grams of fat. Start by picking one of those. Then - stay away from mayo, horseradish sauce and oil. Finally - you can still have the cheese, but know that adds about 50 cals. Avoid the chips and cookies and soda- unsweetened tea, diet soda or water is your best bet. Finally, if you have time - drink a sip of whatever you are drinking between each bite.
As for McDonald's - while they are changing their oil - it will not decrease the amount of fat or calories that the fries have. Instead, it will be changing the amount of saturated fat. Regardless- yall know french fries are not helping anyone lose weight If you find yourself at a McD's - go for the happy meal size burger. Also, the fruit and yogurt parfaits with some equal sprinkled in- is not bad tasting either. I don't care for their salads much - but if you do - skip the dressing. Dressing = TONS of calories.
If you are at Wendy's - get the baked potato and the small chili. Skip the butter and sour cream. That meal will cost ya $2 - and about 500 -600 kcals. To compare - a supersize (king size, biggie size- etc.) meal has over 2000.
If you are at Taco Bell- stick to 1 item - the meal deals are no deal for your waistline. A burrito supreme has about 430 kcals - or, you could get 2 tacos - or 1 quesidilla (which is about 530) - but - either way - you are not over-eating if you eat one thing.
The next question I get is about hunger. Sometimes you will walk away and not get hungry again for 4-5 hours. Sometimes, you will get hungry in 2 hours. It depends on how your body adjusts to your attempt at doing something good for it. In these cases, I recommend you try to increase your fiber intake. Fiber will help food stay in your stomach longer which will help fight hunger pains. Foods that are high in fiber include KASHI (it is a cereal- that is also good as a snack, www.kashi.com), beans - especially soy beans, and oatmeal. These products are also good for your heart.
Ok - yall - gotta run - but please give me your feedback. I am 95% certain I am doing my dissertation on truck drivers, nutrition and healthcare access - so your help is appreciated and in return - I'll keep giving you free advice as long as you let me.
Thanks!

Some really good info! Keep up the good work!
I do know that many of the truck stop restaurants have a Heart Smart area on their menus. But if not, choose an entree that can be broiled or baked vs. fried.
Please post some more Tex.

In December of last year I was diagnosed as a diabetic. In late January, I went to our local hospital for two days of classes on how to deal with the problem.
I take 1/2 of a Metformin pill in the AM and the other half at supper time. Otherwise I watch what I eat and as mentioned above, snack about every two hours. Sometimes it's just a couple crackers. In January at the classes, I weighed 204, today I am down to 150 and feel great.
My glucose is checked twice a day and for the last two months I have averaged well within the PERFECT range.
I even talked a restaurant into having specials daily for diabetics. The chef and owner is diabetic also and they now have three special items on the menu at any time of the day.

Way to go Pipeman! You are certainly a role model for other diabetic truckers.
Can you tell more about the restaurant you were talking about? Where is this restaurant located?
Also, what keeps you motivated? How difficult was it for you to follow this diet when you first started?
All of these answers will help with my research -
Thanks!
