Question
Toporol XL to be more specific. I have been on this medication for my high blood pressure for almost 2 months now. It has effectively reduced my blood pressure to the normal point..but I have developed an itch in the evenings that progresses to be extremely irritating into the nights. I have started taking a hair brush with me to bed now to use when I wake up itching so bad that my fingernails no longer seem to be helping. I heard that this particular medicine does have itching side effects, it makes sense that it is the Toprol..I did not start this until it got into my system. It seems thought that when I take it right before work , I can go to work and have a normal itch free day, but when it starts wearing off I start itching again!
This medicine is doing a great job keeping my BP down to normal but now this itching is driving me crazy!!! Should I report this to my doctor? Or should I keep taking it and find a way to deal with the itch?
I am open to any and all suggestions, it is like my skin is alot more sensitive now and if it is barely touched I itch, I have sat here and scratched welts on my neck and back just typing this, from my hair moving as I type!!!
I am going crazy with this itch!!!

Kyswife:
Sorry to hear about your miserable itching!
U should call Drs off and at least tell his
nurse about this then she can check with him
and give you maybe another med that mite not
aggravate you.
I took tenormin for a while but it bothered
my digestive system. Then he put me on the
Toprol.
Good Luck,Hope dis does help some how!

Answer
Report this to the Dr.
You may need to change meds or take a mild dose of Benadryl for the itching, but that will be entirely up to the Dr. DO NOT take it without consulting him!
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.
