DOT Medical Card

Question
I was recently qualified to drive with a company. I have a DOT physical that is a year old and is still good for a year. I was told by the recruiter that I need to get another physical, that mine is only good for a year, because my long form mentions a sleep apnea.
I use a CPAP machine to sleep at night because my breathing is irregular when I sleep. This is the only problem I have.
The doctor I saw a year ago knew this and ok'd my physical for the normal 2 years (on the new forms, by the way).
Is there something in the regulations that states I must have a DOT physical every year because of this? I guess, next time, I won't mention my sleeping problem if it causes this kind of situation.
Just trying to find out what is what. Thanks

Answer
By the way, this is for an O/O company not a company driver.

Answer
While the regs don't get REAALLLLL specific about this, the GUIDELINES that some follow as gospel recommend that a driver with such a diagnosis as yours (and there are other conditions too) be re-examined each year to determine if the treatment is still therapeutic and that the driver is compliant witht the treatment.
Any company can make their requirments more stringent than what the regs call for.
Many companies will not accept a DOT physical from anyone but their approved physicicans or providers. So, this request for a new physical is not uncommon.
Keep this in mind...If you intend to fudge on your answers to the questions during the physical.
If you lie and are caught, you may find yourself looking for a job for falsifying information.
If they happen to spot your CPAP machine in the truck, you are busted.
It's that simple.
Best to be honest and put up with a bit of a hassle than risk everything like that.
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.

Answer
I know you are right about being honest, that is why I said something in the first place when I had my last physical. Besides, ask Retread about me being honest (Sometimes to much for my own good, LOL). Anyways, the company is planning on sending me to the very same clinic that I had my last DOT physical at. I guess I just don't understand all the hassle, and that is what it is for me, just a hassle. I'm not worried about it or anything like that, just the hassle of it all.
I guess I should be grateful that the company is going to pay for it since I am an O/O. Oh well, just go with the flow, right.
Thanks for you input.
