By-Pass surgery

Question
Help me if you can. IN 1996, April, I had by-pass (triple) and seem to be doing just fine. I do take medications to keep my cholesterol down, and I take Atenenol also and Isorbide. SO, can I drive over the raod? My family Dr. passed me on an DOT physical for a traing school and he said I should be just fine. The reason I ask is because I am not sure how companys look at this. Don`t want to take the word of a recruiter, he may not know or just say it is no problem. So, How about it, any one else with this problem or know of some one that has the same situation. Thanks for any replys. I am going to start traing on 8/26/2002 with a school so HELP. Thanks.

Answer
Please obtain and carry with you to every DOT physical....1)a copy of a statement form your physician saying he is aware of the regulations and the job duties of a Commercial Driver, and that in his/her opinion you are safe to perform those duties, that you meet the regs and that the medications will not affect your ability to perform the job.
2) A copy of your most recent EKG, and a copy of your most recent Stress Test (Bruce Protocols). Make copies of these items and allow the examining physician to put a copy in your medical file.
You may find companies will still refuse to hire you, but they may use some other reason. IF they refuse based on the medical info, even tho all is in order, call the local DOT office and file for a Resolution of conflict.

Answer
Hi, ke4648
Dot has another goody now you must have a
Stress Test that is not older than 2 yrs.
I just went thru the phys./passed. But my
stress test was more than 2yrs old so . Had to
see my Dr. to get refered to my heart Dr to
have the test and they thought they found some
thing so off we go for a heart cath, came out
no problems everything clear.
So I have now $4ooo. for the stress test/ no
idea on the cath , went in at 9A got out at 6P
So I take it that every 2 yrs you will have
to do the tests, unless there is a way out of
them.

Answer
Thanks for the reply. That is quite an order there to be filled every two years. Maybe I should just forget it. At 54 now and surley not getting any better I will just have to wait until the next life to go trucking (lol) and just try to be content with my lot in life here. Had a stress in Feb 02 and had just a little narrowing in one of the replaced artieries (meds are making all seem ok) and that will most likely prove to be my down fall. Thanks again for the info. Good luck to you.
