Question about sugar levels

Question
Is there a blood sugar cut off point where a medical examiner can refuse and/or is suppose to refuse to sign a medical certificate? If there is not anything concrete on this then what is the general guidelines on this subject?
I have a name not a number. I am not cheap but I am resonable.

Answer
a dipstick for the urine which will let them know if you are spilling sugar into your urine.
If the reading is 'Trace' or higher. They will draw blood. Or have you get it done elsewhere and bring them the result. A BLOOD sugar of over 110 is going to raise eyebrows. And you will most likely be referred back to your private physician for treatment.
There are very specific guidlines on this.

Would a blood test/ua within an hour of a hard fall (hubby was standing on a rain-wet pallet on top of wire panels - pallet slipped & he hit the ground - HARD :eek ) no fasting - be a true indicator of an elevated blood sugar level? We don't even have the foggiest idea of appropriate diet for border-line diabetics, so until I do some research it will be hard to take any preventive measures before clinic re-tests. Are actual sweets the big culprit, or are there other factors? Can you suggest links that I might go to for answers?
Thanks,
Clara

Answer
True sweets will affect it but most foods are converteds into some type of sugar for use by the body.
If there is concern, have a fasting level done. If that shows an elevation there are more complex lab tests that will further identify the severity of the problem.

Answer
Thank you so very much for your prompt reply. I did check out two books at the library that have suggested menus and recipes for diabetics, and hopefully this next week I will have a little more time to see what other books about diabetes the library has or can order.
At least with your answer to my question, we can breath a little easier. Hubby had voluntarily lost over 20 pounds in the last two years, and we have been sort ofwatching what we eat in the best interest of his blood pressure!!!!
Thanks again.
Clara

Answer
Don't drink a Coke b4 going for DOT exam. Glad hubby did, test showed a trace, so he was referred to his Dr. (was given a 3 month card because we team) His Dr. got him under control and then he got a 2 year card that expires next month. The last 9 months has been a problem because of bp/heart meds. had him out of balance again. I think everything is a trial and error process, until you find out what works.
You should go back and read Nurse Red's comment on past questions about sugar levels/diabetes.
Also http:\\www.diabetes.org is good for research and meals.

Answer
With high blood pressure AND past heart conditions?!?!?!
I'd like to smack the Dr. that signed THAT certification!
He should have gotten a 1 year card only.

Answer
Sorry I did not explain very well. Hubby just had problems with heart in Dec. Had 2 stents put in and that is when he started taking heart meds. His exam is due in Sept.

Answer
hi Yall! I am a grad. student in Texas and my uncle is a trucker and I am working on a special project and needed some input. When it comes to health issues like diabetes, cholesterol and high blood pressure - can you think of anything that you wish you would have known before you developed a problem? Do you think a preventative/ wellness type program, designed specfically for truck drivers and their families would help? Any input you have on this issue would be greatly appreciated - thank you.

Answer
To the "Thanks Everyone" thread by Andy Solo.
This young fella has already dome some research this year and did polls in truckstops. Try hooking up with Andy. I think you will find him very helpful.
