Dental Emergency

Question
Nurse Red,
We haven't had to deal with anything like this yet since my husband has been driving and one thing we've learned in this industry, don't assume.
He's got a bad tooth and I hopefully will find a dentist that will take a look at him today. I have no idea what they will be able to do. He's got a load that will need delivered on Tuesday, a.m., 7 hours from home.
Any precautions that we should no about concerning drugs prescribed.
Given a choice, he won't sacrifice getting this load to the receiver on time.
Thanks
Kris

Answer
Is it a cavity, an abcess, did it break off?
If it is an abcess, he will most likely need antibiotics before it is pulled. It is OK for him to take these and drive. Tylenol, Advil or Aleve are about the only things he can take for pain while waiting for the infection to subside. If he needs stronger than that, he shouldn't be driving while taking it.
It is important that he get somehwere and get on antibiotics if this is the case. An abcessed tooth can lead to other problems and make you very ill.
Many larger areas have emergency dentists, but this is a holiday weekend and it may take some time and may be costly. They can be found in the yellow pages.
If it is a broken tooth or a cavity, I found that clove OIL was very effective in temporary tooth ache relief. Use the above mentioned medications for longer term pain relief.
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.
