Question
It took a mild allergic reaction to the Glucophage (was on 1000 mg/day) but the doctor went and put me on Advandia yesterday. Starting a 4mg per day. The doctor said it might take 6 weeks or so before things level off on this medication. Does this sound right to you all or can I expect some decent results sooner. Currently my fasting blood sugar is around 220.
Well anyhow thank to everyone who has helped. Now if I can just get 30 more points knocked off I can get that letter from my doctor saying things are being treated and get back to work. (He said he wont provide anything till my sugar is under 200).

Don't just depend on the meds. Eat right, exercise and take your meds religiously. Hope to see ya back on the road soon.

Avandia works differently than Glucophage, so you just might be very successful with Avandia. I, on the other hand, take BOTH Avandia and Glucophage. The Avandia dosage can also be adjusted higher or lower, depending on your sugar levels. So if this dose isn't quite enough, your physician might increase it OR he/she might add the Glucophage to it as I am doing.
As Nurse Red said though, diet and exercise play a major role also. Have you ever attended a diabetes management class? If you are interested, I can email you some information that's available online. Just let me know.

I had my lowest fasting blood sugar ever this morning since being diagnosed. It was 203. Then tonight just 3 hours after supper it was 171.
I know I still have a way to go before it is under control but I can't help feeling positive about the direction things are heading in now.
I have been and will continue to work hard at beating this blood sugar thing. Now I just feel I have a chance of reaching my goals.
Just thought I would share the news.
