I thought my career was ruined because of my need or want to be on medication, although now I'm not so sure. The FMCSR is no where clear and like many laws as pertains to the trucking industry, they are behind (and leaving US behind)in as to just what exactly they are talking about, leaving bathtub interpreters to interpret the bathroom.
At one point a little old half-english speaking psychiatric doctor from India prescribed me on so many different medications
I wouldn't WANT to operate an electric blender.
I had been psuedo-suicidal at the time because I WASN'T operating a truck, and on behalf of some error I wound up drooling in a corner for awhile, gained 100lbs and adopted the hershey squirts as my best friend.
After being off of medications for the past few years, now I'm on a little thing called Risperdol, and after the first few days of usage I feel nothing unusual, hardly any side effects, and could concievably join the French Foreign Legion without any hindrance to my reflexes or motor performance.
As far as what a person can get away with in terms of established laws in reference to driving today's chicken trains, it largely depends on your tact in the matter. If you run to your insurer or dispatcher ( Ain't I neat?
Got me some KeMiStry!) they are libel to give you the ax if you leave any doubt in their minds
as to the traffic court case lost because the defendants wrecked car gets access to your CONFIDENTIAL MEDICAL RECORDS.
I've often thought of re-establishing myself
in the driving field, albeit for the paper trail
of contempory qualification specialists to catch
anything I'd rather avoid, it may be until I can afford my own insurance before I do so again.
Hope that helps

Been on Proxac for the past 2.5 years with no problems. When I took my last DOT physical, I informed them of the medication I was taking. Was no big deal. This was in Ohio. Don't know about other states.
