Urine Tests

Question
On the DOT Physical, what do they look for in the urine and how much would disqualify you??
Do they disqualify for protien and blood in the urine?? and how much does it take to do that??
Thanks for your help

Answer
If Protien and blood are found in the urine all by themselves without any indicator that there may be a urinary tract infection, then you will most likely be referred to your family physician to follow-up and make sure you do not have a kidney problem. Upon follow-up if you are OK you take that documentation back to where your DOT physical was performed and you should be qualified at that point. You may get a temporary 3 month card while getting the follow-up taken care of.
They also look for sugar and the concentration of the urine which are indicators of diabetes and poorly functioning kidneys.
