Question
I got a tooth ache today that was/is totally unbearable. So I went to an emergency dentist. They took an xray and said it had to come out. He said he couldn't do it and scheduled an appointment for a dental surgeon. But not until Wednesday morning. I didn't like the idea of waiting that long. This thing really hurts.
So for $42.00 I got a prescription and another appointment. The problem is I'm taking Codine and am not sure what that is. I took quite a bit tonight and have plans on doing the same until I get the tooth removed. I think I mentioned it really hurts.
Now I'm wondering. If I get in my truck Thursday could I be in trouble. If theres an accident or something and I have to take a urine test is this going to show up? Do I need to wait a few days for it to clear out before I drive? I really don't want any problems with my cdl.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer
Shut down the truck.
Send a copy of your prescrition to your company.
Take the time off and get that tooth taken care of.
You aren't safe to drive on Codiene.
It is a temporary disqualification.
You will test positive on a drug test and will then have to prove your legal prescription to the Medical Review Officer. He reports to the company and will tell them you have a Negative test, but you may not drive while taking your current medication.
It will then take about 3-4 days to clear out of your system after the last dose you take.
Hope you feel better soon.
